The daughter of a multimedia artist and a salesman, Callie has long loved to create and collaborate.
Callie Whelan is a consultant and designer who fights money laundering by day and ragged margins by night. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Notre Dame, where she also studied Cybersecurity and Visual Communications Design. At Notre Dame, Callie worked in a sworn law enforcement capacity, performing digital forensic analysis on mobile devices and laptops pulled as evidence from crime scenes. Digital forensic investigations crystallized Callie’s passion for the pursuit of truth and justice, which led her to start her postgraduate career in anti-financial crime. She now works as a risk consultant, advising financial institutions on anti-money laundering and sanctions compliance as well as physical security. While Callie’s average workday entails many slide decks, phone calls, and cups of coffee, the most interesting days involve testing clients’ physical security controls by posing as an employee and attempting to enter their offices. Such projects have drastically improved her poker face.
As her career unfolds, Callie’s interests in risk, security, and law only paint part of the picture. She is equally passionate about art and design. Callie has refined skills, knowledge, and experience supporting brand identity, typography, and data visualization projects in academic and freelance settings. She applies sharp attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills to solve pressing problems and tell the scintillating stories behind them.
