Type Specimen Book

In my undergraduate typography course, I was tasked with creating a well-designed, beautifully-crafted type specimen book that tells the story of one select typeface. The process included research, analysis, content/concept development, creating an organizational hierarchy, working within a grid structure, addressing readability, legibility, and consistency issues, as well as solving the craft problem of binding, trimming, and producing two copies of the specimen book.

I chose to write my type specimen book on one of my favorite typefaces, Bookman. I was drawn to Bookman by its several variations of fun swashes, as well as its typographic applications throughout space and time in American culture. While the interactive mockup below displays a perfect bind, I ultimately printed and bound my two book copies using a saddle stitch technique.
